New York Civil Rights Lawyers

Scott Michael Mishkin

I have always had a goal, and looking back on how I have attained the ability to legally represent those who are victim to discrimination, whether it be wrongfully accused, or being subjected to grave adverse treatment in the workplace, I knew that back in 1984 that starting my days at 3:20AM and arriving home at 11:00PM, which achieved my Juris Doctor in 1992, would provide me with the honor and privilege to exhibit my passion for the practice of law.

After graduating Temple University, and completed my Masters Degree at the University of Stony Brook, my first job was with the New York City Department of Sanitation, where my position responsibility was literally to walk in and on top of refuse, to analyze the daily tonnage of the disposal of waste.š I often tell those who ask about my background, that I literally had to walk through garbage in order to achieve my goal.š

After completing my work with Sanitation, I worked at Grumman Corporation, where I negotiated the terms and conditions of the amended F-14 contract with the U.S. Navy.š It was great.š Meeting and talking with pilots out in Calverton, New York, while seeing the Aircraft being built and tested.š As my career was also taking off, I realized that between my education and career, and that before I dedicated myself to Law School, I wanted to see our great country of America.š With that, I packed up and with my 1983 Mustang Convertible, drove it across country, put it on a boat in California, and moved to Hawaii. š

š

While in the Aloha State, I earned my lifeguard license and took a local lifeguard job.š At the time, earning my lifeguard license was the hardest and proudest achievement of my life. However, it was during my second job in Hawaii in which my passion to end workplace discrimination became realized.š Believe it or not, I became the victim of race discrimination.š I was treated differently by my supervisors than similarly situated co-workers, subjected to defamatory slurs, racist comments, physically abused, and finally terminated due to my race and my complaints of said discriminatory treatment.š With that it was time for me to return to New York and tackle discrimination and so I drove back home, visiting States that I did not see on my way out, and upon arrival home, applied to Law School.

As per my motivation, while applying for Law School, I applied for a position with the New York City Department of Corrections as its Deputy Director for Contracts.š Contemporaneously with being offered said position Correction, I was accepted into Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center.š I accepted both, and for the next four years, I worked in the Manhattan for Correction's Legal Division, responsible, along with my staff, for the bidding and performance of all Correction contracts, whether it was for the modification of a new jail, or the construction of the Bibby Venture, which was the first floating jail facility, all while attending Law School at night.

Upon graduation from Law School, I began advocating for victims of workplace discrimination, and currently Scott Michael Mishkin, PC represents Employers and
Employees who fall to said discriminatory practices and/or allegations of same.šš I am very aware that typically, an employee spends more time at workplace than at home and that an individual's career is personal and fulfilled with dedication, as is an employer's corporation.š I strive to help, with passion.

I also enjoy lecturing as well as being involved in constitutional contests with the local high schools, where the prevailing high school team competes nationally with the winning team having lunch with the President of the United States.š I take great pleasure in listening and learning of the thoughts and convictions of our youth.š
